Okay, I want to first thank everyone on dA for supporting fellow artists by donating
&
...rut ro, I meant money, to me. I've tried my best to use your funds wisely for artists that have an eclectic array of mediums by which they represent themselves to the world. Throughout the year we have donated memberships to nearly every category of art available to view on
Some of those very artists I have chosen to feature in my journal below ~
featured artists. Please click on their avatars to see what I'm talking about. Others receiving memberships are featured in previous journals & I would recommend you check them out too. Rest assured that they are fantastic artists and some of them might even
inspire your art. I know they do for me -or at least put me to shame
Forward going, I would like to give another three to five subscriptions to dA peeps for the holidays. So, even if you're the Grinch who stole Christmas please find a
& consider all the starving artists in the world. They alone could make up a 3'rd world country!
But seriously, none of this is possible without your assistance. So, again, thank you for helping others out -you're all awesome!
Artists receiving subscriptions from me have some basic characteristics in common...
1) they are master(baters) of multiple art mediums
2) they tend to have art-heavy galleries (no desert wastelanders)
3) they give back to the community via critiques, sharing technique(s), or generally going out of their way to help others
4) they is willing to do me dirty
Um, strike #4...but, really, they are good people who are trying to make a living or relieve life's daily stresses via their art.
Well, I could go on and on about things but I will try to appear sane and keep it to a minimal. First, American society/culture has degraded significantly in the past 20-30 years to the point of being nearly unrecognizable. My estimations is that it's truly the dumbing down of society, whether that is attributable to the lack of education, poor educators, or politicians. I mean people, why do we vote against our own best interests? And voting (which covers all three areas) isn't just a "privilege" it's our
duty dammit! Which means that we need to be informed on the issues and not just listen to whatever sensational news reporters tell us. Hell, news isn't even news anymore -it's just a rat race amongst the networks to come up with the most scandalous -who gives a
stories so that they can generate more advertising revenue. Also, whether you peeps know it or not, we have laws in place which allow lying to the masses (about nearly anything imaginable) to be protected under the 1'st amendment to the Constitution. What this means is that when some dumbass (Palin) goes on TV and talks about having "death camps" in health care (AKA Obama care, because you all know he's a socialist) it's a fact-checked/proven
LIE (or if you want to be bullshit P.C. about it, then it's a "
misrepresentation") of reality. Now, I don't want to sound like some bleeding liberal/progressive...I'm just pointing out 1 example of how it's okay to lie and get away with it. At any rate, whether the dumbing down of society is intentional or an unintended consequence of poor governance, I cannot accept how ignorant and irresponsible adults have become in this country. You've heard of the 7 deadly sins? Well, might I suggest an eighth -ignorance. And I know I'm not the only one seeing this. I had graduated from a distinguished MBA program several years ago. While I was going to school I was appalled at the lack of intellectual curiosity and overall idiocy of my fellow classmates. And if you know me, I'm not the sharpest tool in the wood shed nor am I the dullest crayon in the box, but common people and try to do your very best while you have this opportunity to grow. Both of my neighbors are professors at top 10 schools and say similar -it's truly astonishing how low we can go!
And on a lighter note, I have been hella busy as of late. I recently gained full custody of my son, which is why there's so much cartoon like art on my page, and have been trying to spend as much time with him as possible. I'm also searching for employment. Although, I have taken into consideration working for myself & starting my own business. If anyone has any suggestions for someone with an impeccable education and background in finance/banking, hit me up. Although I was looking into starting a bar -lol, seriously. And lately I've been on a video game kick. I can't put down Fallout New Vegas! After putting down the joy stick for more than 15 years, I caught the video game bug and that's okay with me -even though I could find more productive things to do, like walk my dogs more often (3 shih tzu's). Finally, I want to say that as soon as things calm down a bit for me I would like to get back into doing some drawings. This time, more "real" drawings and less cartoon-ish drawings. I don't know, they take forever for me to draw but it does relax me.
Finally, if I could make a plea to everyone here...a PSA (Public Service Announcement), if you will, to please read. Read anything, pick up a book, print out a PDF (I heard the llama hustle by cigsace was good
), and read it. It's okay to leave your FaceBook alone for a day or two. Trust me, there has been no recorded deaths anywhere in the world from being unplugged! By the way, while I'm ranting -FaceBook/Facebooking is a pet-peeve of mine (don't ask). But by all means, get outside of your little cubbyhole of a mind and fill it with something prodigious!
